The Korean Cosmetics Research Institute (KCRI), under the leadership of Director Cho Shin-haeng, is advancing its initiatives aimed at customizing color cosmetics development for the global market by expanding its database on skin characteristics.
This strategic move is in response to the rising demand for personalized cosmetic products and aims to provide comprehensive skin and cosmetics usage data through its integrated skin data platform, known as the Skin Global Information Platform (SGIP).
Currently, the SGIP encompasses data from approximately 15,000 individuals across 18 countries and regions, giving Korean cosmetics companies the ability to formulate tailored export strategies based on specific national requirements.
The platform's upgraded website not only offers detailed skin characteristic data by country but also includes market insights and SWOT analyses for overseas market entry.
This tool has been recognized as a valuable asset for companies looking to make informed business decisions.
KCRI plans to enhance the SGIP's functionality this year by focusing on skin tone data.
Given that the success of products in the color cosmetics sector is heavily influenced by the compatibility of shades with consumer skin tones, there is an increasing industrial demand for precise skin tone analysis.
The research institute is set to introduce new features for facial tone analysis, including visualization of skin tone distribution and the provision of color palettes based on skin hues.
These developments are expected to be pivotal in optimizing the color compositions of products such as foundations and cushions through thorough country-specific skin tone interval analysis.
Additionally, they will facilitate the planning of targeted color products tailored to specific markets, as well as the analysis of skin tone variations across different age demographics.
Moreover, the existing database of skin characteristics continues to expand.
Recent uploads now include findings from skin measurements and surveys conducted in Turkey, with plans to release data from an upcoming project in the Philippines later this year.
KCRI is currently conducting demand surveys to determine future data collection directions.
The institute aims to secure additional skin characteristic data focusing on countries with high demand, thereby providing foundational resources for companies pursuing global market entry.
A spokesperson from KCRI stated, “Skin data is a critical asset that determines the global competitiveness of cosmetic companies.
By reflecting the needs of the industry in our data building efforts, we aim to actively support product development and international expansion for businesses in the cosmetics sector.”
