L'Oréal Group has announced the opening of nominations for the 2027 L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards.
Candidates can submit their applications until June 30, 2027, (local time in France).
This award, established in 1998 under the conviction that "the world needs science, and science needs women," aims to celebrate the exceptional research achievements of female scientists while elevating their status globally.
Each year, five female scientists are honored, and to date, the initiative has recognized 142 recipients, supporting over 5,000 emerging women scientists across 140 countries.
Notably, seven of the laureates have gone on to win Nobel Prizes, reinforcing the international prestige of the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards.
For the 2027 awards, nominees will be selected from five distinct disciplines: Physics, Mathematics, Computer and Information Sciences, Chemistry, and Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Winners will be chosen based on their research contributions, and candidates will be evaluated from regions including Africa and Arab States, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and North America, with one laureate from each region.
To qualify for consideration, candidates must demonstrate significant academic achievements in one of the specified fields, including published research contributions recognized by the international scientific community.
Importantly, there are no age restrictions for candidates. Selection criteria include: 1. Exceptional contributions to scientific advancement. 2.
Impact of the nominee's research within their field, assessed by the quantity and quality of published papers, as well as conference presentations and patents. 3.
Recognition by peers in their research area through publication outputs. 4.
Commitment to education, mentoring, and wide-ranging contributions aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The selection process involves a preliminary review by a panel of experts across various scientific fields, followed by final deliberations from an international jury of distinguished scientists.
Each of the five final recipients will be awarded €100,000 (approximately 170 million Korean Won) as a recognition of their dedication to advancing scientific research, with the awards ceremony scheduled to take place in Paris in June 2027.
Only nominated candidates can apply, eliminating self-nominations or nominations from family members.
However, multiple nominations for different candidates, or re-nominations of previous nominees, are allowed.
Nominations must be submitted via the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards website (https://www.forwomeninscience.com/) in English.
Detailed application guidelines and nomination templates are available on the website.
By promoting the talents and achievements of women in science, the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards continue to advocate for actionable change within the scientific community, fostering an environment where women are recognized and empowered in their contributions to global scientific progress.
