LG Household & Health Care, a leading player in the beauty and wellness sector, has formally partnered with the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) to embark on a collaborative initiative aimed at identifying and nurturing the next generation of K-beauty startups.
This partnership culminated in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) focused on the 'Startup Support and Discovery' program, a component of the city-driven 'Seoul Startup Hub Lifestyle Open Innovation' initiative.
The program is meticulously designed to leverage the strengths of both large enterprises and the City of Seoul, targeting burgeoning companies in lifestyle sectors such as beauty and wellness that exhibit significant growth potential.
It aims to foster synergies through various support mechanisms, including financial investment and technological collaboration.
Central to LG Household & Health Care's strategy is its commitment to fostering startups aligned with its vision of being a "Science-Driven Beauty & Wellness Company.
" The company plans to select startups based on scientific research foundations and engage in joint research efforts that advance not only innovation but also tangible business integration.
Furthermore, LG Household & Health Care is poised to utilize its extensive expertise to assist participating startups in their endeavors to penetrate international markets.
This includes evaluating potential investments to bolster their global competitiveness, particularly in navigating complex overseas regulatory landscapes—an area where many promising startups may lack sufficient expertise.
Starting next month, LG Household & Health Care and the SBA will commence recruiting interested companies to participate in this program.
Startups across various sectors related to beauty and wellness, including brands, materials, and distribution services, are encouraged to apply.
Selected companies will receive support equivalent to 10 million KRW (approximately $8,500), a substantial boost for new ventures seeking capital for growth.
This initiative is not the first of its kind for LG Household & Health Care.
Recently, the company has actively sought to invest in scientific and research-based startups both domestically and internationally.
In South Korea alone, it has begun participating in multiple investment funds, including the 'IBK Capstone K-Unicorn Investment Fund,' the 'Mark-Solidone Beauty Intelligence Fund,' and the 'LG Household & Health Care-Infobank Value-Up Venture Investment Fund,' among others.
On a global scale, LG has also contributed to four funds, including the 'Alliance Consumer Growth Fund V-A, L. P. ' in the United States, the world’s largest cosmetics market.
An LG Household & Health Care representative stated, “We will actively support promising startups with global visions but lacking adequate capabilities to address overseas regulations.
We remain committed to ongoing investments in startups seeking to secure future growth engines.” This dedication to fostering startup innovation not only strengthens the company’s portfolio but integrates it deeply into the evolving K-beauty ecosystem, setting a precedent for collaborative growth in the industry.
