On October 14, eBay Japan marked the first anniversary of its 'Mega Debut' initiative by hosting the inaugural Qoo10 Mega Debut Awards at the Four Seasons Hotel.

Over the past year, the company has successfully assisted 188 emerging K-Beauty brands in establishing a foothold in Japan, a particularly challenging market known for its discerning consumers who prioritize verified products and consumer reviews.

The Mega Debut initiative, launched in April 2025 following the K-Beauty Mega Conference held in Seoul, was designed to identify and support 200 independent K-Beauty brands.

In a highly competitive landscape, eBay Japan is now pivoting towards a multi-faceted approach to bolster brand visibility, focusing on partnerships and tailored program offerings that cater to various stages of brand development.

Starting next year, a flagship store in Tokyo is set to enhance the K-Beauty experience, allowing consumers to engage with products in a physical location, thus bridging the online-offline divide.

This initiative signifies an evolution in eBay Japan's role as a growth partner for K-Brands, with an array of support strategies including intense discount campaigns, influencer collaborations, media exposure, and interactive sessions such as live broadcasts.

In the first year of Mega Debut, eBay Japan emphasized an aggressive marketing strategy, introducing new brands in a relay format every Tuesday to familiarize Japanese consumers with K-Beauty products.

Reports indicate that the monthly sales for participating brands surged sevenfold, and brand followings increased 21 times.

Notably, 94% of the 200 supported brands were Korean, generating combined sales exceeding 3.35 billion yen.

For the second year, eBay Japan has ambitious plans to scale the Mega Debut program, extending exposure periods from seven to fourteen days and increasing the number of showcased brands from four to six each week.

The initiative will further enrich its core promotion, 'Mega Warri,' aimed at maximizing visibility and sales for K-Brands.

Additionally, eBay Japan is launching incubation and collaboration initiatives aimed at fostering rising and star brands, respectively.

The new incubation program will provide intensive support to 150 brands for three months, while the Mega Collaboration will partner with 50 brands for exclusive promotions and live broadcasts.

This focused effort is part of a larger strategy to solidify K-Brands on the global stage.

The awards ceremony recognized 11 brands that demonstrated outstanding performance, with nine of them being K-Beauty participants.

CHARDE, a K-skin care brand, received special recognition as the Mega Debut of the Year for its exceptional product effectiveness and strategic marketing initiatives, which quickly captured consumer support.

Kim Jae-don, CMO of eBay Japan, stated, "From the K-Beauty Mega Conference in March of last year to the launch of the Mega Debut program in April, we have seen over 200 independent K-Beauty brands successfully enter the Japanese market.

The fierce competition and commitment to product integrity have led to significant growth in brand performance and consumer loyalty.

We will continue to support these emerging brands as they reach the global market. "

As eBay Japan commemorates its eighth anniversary as part of the eBay Group, the company is positioned as the leading online marketplace in Japan, boasting over 30% market share in the online beauty segment.

With a core consumer base comprising women aged 10 to 30, the platform enjoys a steady double-digit growth rate, solidifying its role as a key player in shaping beauty trends across the region.
