The Korea Testing & Research Institute (KTR), led by Director Kim Hyun-cheol, has been officially designated by the Ministry of Science and ICT as a performance evaluation institution for information security products.

This designation comes as part of the enforcement of the Act on the Promotion of the Information Security Industry, which lays the framework for assessing the security and functional performance as well as resource efficiency of these critical products.

With this new authority, KTR is set to deliver detailed performance validation services for essential network security products, including firewalls and intrusion prevention systems.

This initiative aims to mitigate security vulnerabilities that can arise from hacking incidents and declines in product performance in real operational environments.

In addition to performance evaluations, KTR offers a broad range of security assessment services.

These include security functionality testing for information security products, Common Criteria (CC) certification evaluations, IoT security certification testing, security assessments for credit card terminals, and cybersecurity testing for medical devices.

Notably, KTR is recognized as the first domestic testing organization to provide quality evaluations of AI systems in accordance with international standards such as ISO/IEC 25059 and ISO/IEC 25058.

They also conduct reliability verifications as per ISO/IEC TR 24028 and AI data quality assessments in line with ISO/IEC 5259-2.

As a KOLAS-accredited testing institution, KTR is pioneering the implementation of an AI certification system based on these international standards.

Director Kim Hyun-cheol asserts, “KTR is committed to being a first mover in AI software testing and certification, providing accredited evaluation services for AI, software, and network systems from quality assessment to reliability verification.

With the designation as a performance evaluation institution for information security products, KTR is positioned to expand its high-quality evaluation services for network products significantly.”

This strategic development places KTR at the forefront of safeguarding Korea’s digital ecosystem, as global demand for robust cybersecurity frameworks continues to amplify.

The implications are profound for international investors and supply chain stakeholders looking to enhance their cybersecurity portfolios, presenting both opportunities and challenges in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.
