The Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA), under the leadership of President Kang Kyung-sung, is set to revolutionize the export landscape for domestic businesses by establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the global B2B platform Alibaba.com on March 20.

This strategic partnership aims to leverage Alibaba's extensive global network, which boasts over 50 million buyers across more than 200 countries, providing unprecedented access for Korean exporters.

Through this MOU, KOTRA plans to synchronize its existing B2B export platform, BuyKorea (buykorea.org), with Alibaba.com to implement the "2026 Online Platform Utilization Export Support Program.

" This initiative is designed to ease the entry of export novice companies into the global market by providing streamlined access to two major platforms.

Participating companies will receive multi-faceted support, including:

1. **Simultaneous Entry into Dual Platforms**: Export novice businesses will benefit from the cross-platform exposure that both BuyKorea and Alibaba.com provide, allowing for enhanced visibility and market penetration.

2. **Exclusive Showrooms for Korean Products**: Alibaba.com will establish dedicated sections to showcase Korean goods, thus enhancing their marketability and providing a tailored shopping experience for international buyers.

3. **Digital Marketing and Lead Generation**: Utilizing social media strategies, KOTRA will facilitate the discovery of potential buyers, broadening market access.

4. **Comprehensive Export Support**: Export experts from KOTRA will guide companies through the entire export process, from buyer engagement to contract finalization.

Moreover, KOTRA is leveraging its network of AI Trade Support Centers—20 nationwide operational bases collaborating with local governments and universities.

These centers will deliver valuable services, including the creation of innovative marketing content like video promotions and automated suggestions for suitable buyers from the BuyKorea platform, ensuring effective matchmaking.

KOTRA’s collaboration with Alibaba.com marks a significant push towards strengthening an AI and digital-focused export support system.

The initiative aims to democratize access to international markets, especially crucial for businesses facing challenges from rising logistics costs and the ongoing geopolitical turmoil in regions like the Middle East that have disrupted traditional marketing channels.

According to KOTRA's Vice President and Head of the AI Trade Investment Headquarters, Ahn Young-joo, "We anticipate a substantial marketing synergy from leveraging both the domestic B2B platform BuyKorea and the global giant Alibaba.com.

Our systematic support will enable novice exporters to expand their operations efficiently using AI and digital tools. "

This strategic maneuver not only sets the stage for enhancing the competitive landscape for Korean exporters but also emphasizes KOTRA’s commitment to fostering sustainable growth amidst evolving global trade dynamics.

With a keen focus on digital platforms, KOTRA is poised to empower businesses to navigate the complexities of international markets more effectively and affordably.
