The 28th Nature Love Blue Heart Art Festival, set to take place on May 16, aims to gather up to 1,000 preschoolers and elementary school students across South Korea in a bid to enhance their understanding of environmental issues.
This year's competition is co-hosted by the Samyang Group's Su-dang Foundation, led by Chairman Kim Yoon, along with Samyang Corporation, Samyang Chemical, and Hyvis, a specialty chemical fiber materials company.
Supported by the Ministry of Environment and the Jeonbuk Office of Education, the event underscores a critical mission: to instill the principles of environmental protection among young generations.
Advance registration for potential participants commenced on the 27th, with a recruitment cap set at 1,000 participants.
Those interested can secure their spots via the festival's official website. Given the anticipated high demand, early closure of registration remains a possibility.
Detailed information regarding registration and the event schedule can also be found on the festival's site.
Since its inception in 1996, the Nature Love Blue Heart Art Festival has expanded significantly, evolving from a local initiative to a nationwide event that attracts over 2,000 attendees, including guardians.
This year's competition will follow the structure established in previous years, featuring three divisions: preschool, lower elementary, and upper elementary.
The theme for the art competition will be revealed on the day of the event, further enhancing the excitement and spontaneity of the challenge.
Additionally, to maintain fair competition, designated supervisors will oversee each area to prevent any misconduct.
The total prize pool for this year’s competition amounts to 14.7 million KRW, distributed across several categories: three grand prize winners will receive 1 million KRW each, while six will earn 700,000 KRW, another six will be awarded 500,000 KRW, and so forth, culminating in a total of 60 awardees who will be acknowledged for their artistic contributions.
All participants will receive a commemorative gift as a token of appreciation for their efforts.
In conjunction with the art competition, a range of eco-friendly experiential programs will be available.
Activities include creating unique smartphone grip tokens using whipped cream bonds, crafting keychains from recycled materials like socks and shoelaces, and planting cherry tomato seeds in egg cartons.
These hands-on learning experiences are designed to deepen young participants' understanding of environmental sustainability.
Moreover, the festival will feature an Eco Flea Market, promoting the sale of reusable household items at affordable prices.
Similar to last year, this initiative aims to foster a culture of resource recycling and sharing among children, prohibiting the sale of food items or any goods intended purely for profit.
Recruitment for participants in the Eco Flea Market will be announced separately after the registration for the main event closes.
Bae Yong-jun, the head of Jeonju EP Plant at Samyang Corporation, expressed optimism regarding this year's festival, citing enhancements in the registration process, as well as expanded conveniences such as food truck options and restroom facilities, aimed at improving overall participant satisfaction.
He emphasized, 'We aim to deliver not only a competitive environment but also a rich array of entertainment and learning opportunities, and we look forward to welcoming a large turnout.
'
