LG Household & Health Care (LG H&H) has made significant strides in hair growth technology with its newly developed compound combining ferulic acid and nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN), derived from Korean angelica root, known locally as Chungkyung.
This innovative formulation not only promotes hair growth but also extends the growth phase of existing hair, as published in the prestigious journal 'Scientific Reports', an offshoot of 'Nature'.
Since 2009, LG H&H's R&D team has focused on creating environments conducive to hair growth using Chungkyung, a herb revered in traditional medicine for its ability to activate and restore vital energy.
Historically cited in 'Donguibogam' and 'Bencao Gangmu', Chungkyung has established itself as a vital ingredient for invigorating hair follicles.
Employing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and molecular modeling, LG H&H identified that ferulic acid enhances the estrogen receptors in dermal papilla cells—key regulators of hair follicle activity.
Building on this finding, the company developed a potent formulation combining ferulic acid and NMN, which is recognized for its role in cellular energy metabolism and anti-aging properties.
Experimental trials demonstrated that this ferulic acid-NMN duo significantly boosts hair growth and maintains hair growth stages more effectively than traditional hair-strengthening therapies such as minoxidil.
In cellular cultures, the ferulic acid-NMN combination was shown to foster the proliferation of dermal papilla cells and activate mitochondrial functions, pivotal for hair follicle vitality.
Mitochondria serve as the energy production centers, facilitating new hair generation.
The data not only supports the therapeutic claims surrounding this new compound but also sets the stage for future innovations in hair care technology.
CTO Kang Nae-kyu stated, “Following this research, we plan to continue developing materials that provide access to hair growth technologies that promote thicker, healthier hair.
We have confirmed the potential of ferulic acid derived from Chungkyung and aim to enhance our research on hair growth and volume improvement through its combination with NMN.” The implications for buyers, investors, and the supply chain are profound, as this development indicates a shift towards integrating traditional herbal knowledge with modern scientific principles, further solidifying LG H&H's leadership position in the beauty and personal care industry.
This innovative approach not only caters to evolving consumer preferences for holistic and effective beauty solutions but also sets a benchmark for competitive differentiation within the marketplace.
