Suwon City announced on June 5 that it will recruit 10 small and medium-sized manufacturing enterprises to participate in an export promotion initiative targeting Singapore and Indonesia. This move comes as a strategic response to ongoing trade risks posed by instability in the Middle East, which had previously disrupted their export initiatives.
The export promotion program is a collaborative effort involving local trade institutions in Singapore and Jakarta, aiming to connect Suwon-based companies with verified buyers in these markets. This hands-on approach encourages direct export consultations and site visits to potential buyers, enhancing real-time market engagement and opportunity identification.
Originally slated for launch in April, the Middle East-focused export initiative was suspended due to geopolitical uncertainties. The rescheduled program for October 19-24 represents a critical pivot towards Southeast Asia, where both Singapore and Indonesia serve as central hubs in the trade of the world's 2 billion Muslims. According to trade figures, Singapore is ranked as the top importing nation among ASEAN countries, while Indonesia ranks third.
Suwon City will facilitate key aspects of this program, including buyer research, interpretation services during consultations, and partial coverage of airfare (for one participant per company) to reduce financial barriers for SMEs. To further enhance strategic alignment, participants will receive a pre-matching data set of 100 local buyer contacts to optimize export discussions.
Eligibility for the program is aimed at Suwon-based SMEs that possess English-language websites and catalogs. A priority selection will be given to those companies that had previously qualified for the Dubai and Istanbul initiatives before their cancellation due to the ongoing Middle East conflicts. The targeted export categories include skincare, healthcare, haircare, cosmetics, daily necessities, food products, artificial intelligence, and information communications.
Companies interested in participating are encouraged to visit the Suwon City website (www.suwon.go.kr) to locate the announcement on the 'City News' bulletin board and download the application form by June 5. In light of the prolonged conflict in the Middle East, a Suwon City representative emphasized the importance of providing local SMEs with suitable platforms to expand into the global Muslim market through specialized trading ports like Singapore and Indonesia.
