Cosmax announced on the 7th that it has achieved a ‘Satisfactory’ rating in the sun protection factor (SPF) proficiency assessment conducted by the French Bureau Interprofessionnel d'Etudes Analytiques (BIPEA). This assessment confirms Cosmax’s capability to perform in vitro SPF evaluations based on the international standard testing method ISO 23675, which is pivotal for enhancing its product integrity in a rapidly evolving market.
The sun care market is increasingly emphasizing functionality, user experience, safety, and compliance with global regulations. In response, Cosmax is accelerating its research and development and evaluation systems to adapt to these market demands. This recent proficiency assessment serves as evidence of Cosmax’s enhanced competence in developing sun care products aligned with international standards, thus reinforcing its market competitiveness.
BIPEA evaluates the accuracy and reliability of analytical metrics for corporate research institutes and testing facilities. The latest proficiency assessment was conducted in accordance with ISO 23675, which was formalized in December 2024. During this assessment, blind samples of lotion formulations lacking UV protection data were subjected to internal testing by Cosmax, which demonstrated robust performance in deriving stable results.
ISO 23675 utilizes PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) plates for measuring UV absorption and transmission properties. One notable feature is the automated application device equipped with robotic arms, which decreases application variability while enhancing consistency and reproducibility of tests. This methodology is expected to be highly applicable in future sun care product development and global market responsiveness, as it reduces testing duration compared to traditional ISO 24444 human application methods and avoids direct UV exposure to skin.
Since adopting the ISO 23675 evaluation method in February of this year, Cosmax has been systematically enhancing its sun care R&D capabilities and evaluation infrastructure. Notably, as more clients pursue entry into the European market, Cosmax is refining its sun care support systems to include everything from product planning and formulation development to efficacy evaluation and market responses.
Moving forward, Cosmax plans to leverage its validated evaluation system to enhance both the speed and reliability of its clients’ sun care product development, actively supporting market expansions, particularly in Europe.
