The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, led by Commissioner Oh Yu-kyung, has announced a joint symposium with the Korean Society of Pharmacognosy on November 20, focusing on the latest research trends in the development of natural-based products. The event will take place in Osko, located in Cheongju, Chungbuk.

Interest in natural products has been growing not only within the traditional pharmaceutical sector but also in cosmetics and health functional foods that utilize natural extracts. This shift has positioned natural products as key materials for product development.

This symposium aims to facilitate collaboration among relevant departments of the Ministry, including those involved in cosmetics and health functional foods, to share comprehensive research trends in natural-based product development, moving beyond traditional academic exchanges centered on herbal medicine.

The main program includes: 1) case studies on developing sensory evaluation technologies for herbal medicines using artificial intelligence; 2) research trends regarding safety assessments of natural cosmetic ingredients and the development of functional cosmetics; 3) guidelines for recognizing functional ingredients in health functional foods; and 4) examples of global recognition for functional raw materials in natural products.

Anyone with an interest in herbal medicine, cosmetics, and health functional foods can participate for free through pre-registration starting on October 21.

The Ministry expects that the symposium will enhance the development and evaluation capabilities of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and health functional foods utilizing natural products, and plans to continue supporting the sharing of the latest scientific information and fostering expert exchanges to increase the competitiveness of the domestic natural products industry.
