The 36th Korea Beauty Industry Expo, co-hosted by the Korean Association of Skin Care Professionals and CIDESCO Korea, was successfully held from April 14 to 15 at Sejong University. This year's event saw the participation of 66 companies operating 86 booths, highlighting the latest skin care trends and technologies, and attracting approximately 10,000 professionals in the skin care industry, which underscores the growing interest and investment in this sector.

In the opening ceremony, Association President Jo Su-kyung stated, "The recent introduction of skin care specialists and the push for mandatory job training will elevate the industry's standing. The competitiveness of our skin care industry ultimately hinges on the quality of service provided." This focus on enhancing service quality suggests a strategic pivot towards differentiating South Korea's beauty offerings in an increasingly competitive global market.

Industry leaders, including Han Jeong-ae, Chair of the Democratic Party’s Policy Committee, and Kang Yun-gu, former Vice Minister of Health and Welfare, attended the event, highlighting its significance. During her speech, Minister Jeong Eun-kyeong noted that global interest in K-beauty has surged alongside the Korean Wave, projecting that the beauty industry will continue to evolve in sophistication to meet diverse consumer demands. This reflects a shift towards high-value offerings that align with consumer expectations.

Additionally, Member of Parliament Han Jeong-ae emphasized that the skin care sector is not only central to K-beauty's positioning but also a new growth engine for the national economy. By combining cutting-edge technology with artistic sensibility, this business area has garnered global recognition for its high added value. The emphasis on legislative and policy support for industry practitioners aligns with the trend of increased professionalization in beauty services.

Representative Nam In-soon also noted that the beauty and aesthetics industry is gaining international attention as a key part of the country's growth engine. He predicted that the institutional achievements, including public health law amendments and the establishment of skin care specialists, alongside mandatory job training, will enhance the industry's professionalism and service quality.

Soon-kyung Seo, Chair of the National Assembly's Legislation and Judiciary Committee, highlighted the alignment of K-beauty with AI-era demands, asserting its role as a key industry driving future economic growth. By supporting industry advancements, stakeholders display their commitment to bolstering this vital sector's contributions.

The expo also served as a platform for recognizing contributors to the growth of the skin care industry. Honorees included Kim Gyu-rang, President of the Busan Chapter, Kim Min-jeong, Professor at Jeju National University, and Kang Gwi-mi, Director of Operations, acknowledging valuable contributions to the sector.

Furthermore, the expo featured educational programs designed to strengthen practical industry competencies, with around 6,000 skin care professionals participating in hygiene training. This training focused on understanding public health management laws, foundational education, and specialized workshops like stone therapy, indicating a commitment to elevating industry standards.

The exhibition not only showcased the latest technologies and products but also served as a conduit for sharing policy directions and institutional improvements. The industry anticipates that the push for mandatory job training and strengthened institutional frameworks will elevate the skin care sector to new heights. Particularly, the strategic positioning of skin care within the burgeoning global reach of K-beauty appears increasingly promising, as it is poised to become a key service industry.

An official from the Association stated, "The skin care industry is evolving beyond mere service into a high-value sector. By enhancing specialization and refining institutions, we are committed to continuously expanding our global competitiveness." This confirms a broader trend where South Korea aims to solidify itself as a leader in the global beauty landscape.
