KTR Establishes Cybersecurity Support System for EU Compliance

KTR (Korea Testing & Research Institute), led by CEO Kim Hyun-chul, announced on the 24th that it has established a partnership with SRC, a German cybersecurity certification agency, to support export companies in responding to the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), set to be implemented in the second half of next year.

The CRA outlines essential cybersecurity requirements for hardware and software products throughout their lifecycle, mandating compliance through CE certification. This regulation will affect network-connected products including laptops, mobile devices, cameras, applications, IoT devices, and smart appliances, highlighting the urgency for companies to adapt their offerings accordingly.

Under this agreement, domestic export firms can utilize KTR’s services via SRC, including security vulnerability assessments and product technical consultations. This proactive measure enables companies to navigate the increasingly stringent European cybersecurity regulations effectively, mitigating the difficulties they may encounter in securing testing evaluations and certifications ahead of the CRA's full enforcement.

Moreover, both organizations will also implement technical training programs focused on compliance with the European CRA for domestic exporters, further bolstering their preparedness.

KTR not only addresses cybersecurity but also offers testing and evaluation services for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), safety, and toxic substance assessments for existing electrical and electronic products, machinery, and medical devices. Additionally, through its CE certification body established in Poland, GCB, KTR can directly issue CE certifications.

Kim Hyun-chul emphasized the significant impact that the forthcoming CRA will have on domestic export companies, stating, "As digital technologies are integrated across various products in the industry, the implementation of the European CRA will profoundly affect them. KTR is actively seeking a variety of response measures, including expanded collaboration with local institutions to help domestic companies comply with the enhanced European security regulations efficiently and swiftly."
