28th Nature-Love Blue Heart Painting Festival Opens Pre-Registration
On the 27th, pre-registration commenced for the 28th Nature-Love Blue Heart Painting Festival, targeting kindergartners (ages 3-6) and elementary students. Set to take place on May 16 at the outdoor area of Hyubis Jeonju Plant No. 1, the festival expects to draw significant participation, with a cap of 1,000 painters. A notable aspect is that pre-registration may close early should interest exceed capacity, highlighting the event's strong demand among families.
The festival is co-hosted by the Samyang Group's Su-dang Foundation, Samyang Corporation, and Hyubis, a specialized chemical fiber company, with sponsorship from the Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment and the Jeonbuk Special Self-Government Provincial Office of Education. Originating in 1996 to emphasize environmental protection among children in Jeongbuk, the festival has evolved into a major environmental celebration with annual participation from over 2,000 attendees, including guardians, showcasing its scalability and community significance.
This year's painting competition mirrors the previous format, divided into three categories: early childhood, lower elementary, and upper elementary grades, occurring from 1:30 PM to 5 PM. The theme of the artwork will be revealed on the day of the event, with supervisors positioned in designated areas to prevent misconduct. Such measures underline the festival's commitment to integrity and fairness, ensuring a valuable experience for participants.
The total prize pool amounts to 14.7 million KRW, awarded across multiple categories, with three grand prizes of 1 million KRW (Minister of Climate, Energy, and Environment Award), six gold prizes of 700,000 KRW, six silver prizes of 500,000 KRW, six bronze prizes of 300,000 KRW, nine encouragement prizes of 200,000 KRW, and 30 merit prizes of 30,000 KRW each. This structured reward system encourages broad participation, enhancing the attractiveness of the festival.
In addition to the painting contest, various environmentally themed workshops will be offered, such as crafting unique smartphone grips using cream bonds, creating doll keychains from recyclable materials, and planting tomato seeds in recycled egg cartons. These activities aim to instill an understanding of environmental sustainability among participants, fostering a robust community engagement model centered on eco-awareness.
The festival will again feature an Eco Flea Market, where gently used items like toys, books, and clothing will be available for low-cost purchase. Designed to teach children about resource recycling and sharing, this market prohibits the sale of food items and profit-driven goods, reflecting a commitment to responsible consumer practices. Information on how to participate will be provided to confirmed attendees post-pre-registration.
Bae Yong-Jun, director of Samyang Corporation’s Jeonju EP Plant, stated, "This year's festival aims to enhance participant satisfaction through improved registration processes and expanded facilities, including food trucks and restroom availability. With a variety of engaging activities planned, we anticipate substantial interest and participation." Such enhancements illustrate the festival's strategy to elevate participant experience while fostering a culture of environmental consciousness among future generations.
