LG Household & Health Care Develops Hair Growth Enhancer from Angelica Extract
LG Household & Health Care announced that it has developed a new ingredient combination derived from Angelica, specifically Ferulic Acid and Nicotinamide Mononucleotide (NMN), which has been shown to improve hair growth speed and thickness. This research has been published in the renowned scientific journal, Scientific Reports, a sister publication of Nature.
Since 2009, LG Household & Health Care's Technical Research Institute has focused on Angelica, known for creating an optimal environment for hair growth. This herb is traditionally noted for facilitating communication within the body’s energy channels, as referenced in historical texts like Donguibogam and Boncho Gangmok. In this context, the company has explored the potential for enhancing follicle vitality and regulating cellular energy metabolism.
Utilizing artificial intelligence and molecular modeling technologies, LG Household & Health Care confirmed that Ferulic Acid activates estrogen receptors in dermal papilla cells, which are central to hair growth. Following this discovery, the company conducted experiments with a combination of the Ferulic Acid and NMN complex for scalp and hair care, focusing on enhancing hair growth.
Results indicated that the Ferulic Acid-NMN complex promotes hair growth and prolongs the growth phase. Cultivation experiments on human hair follicles revealed that the combination aids in cellular proliferation and enhances mitochondrial function, which plays a crucial role in energy metabolism vital for new hair production. Notably, this Ferulic Acid-NMN combination demonstrated a higher hair growth phase retention rate compared to Minoxidil, a well-known hair strengthening agent.
LG Household & Health Care’s Chief Technology Officer, Kang Nae-kyu, stated, “We plan to continue developing materials that enable access to hair thickening technologies. Not only have we confirmed the potential of Ferulic Acid derived from Angelica, but we will also upgrade our research on hair growth and volume enhancement by incorporating NMN.”
This strategic move underscores LG Household & Health Care’s intent to position itself firmly within the burgeoning hair care sector, utilizing advanced research and development to carve out competitive advantages in formulations targeting longevity and health in hair care.
