Aekyung Industrial Unveils New Hair Loss Alleviating Ingredient Research at WCHR

Aekyung Industrial announced on the 10th that it will present its research findings on a new hair loss alleviating ingredient at the 14th World Congress for Hair Research (WCHR), taking place from May 28 to 31 at COEX, Seoul. The company aims to leverage this innovative study to position itself competitively in the premium haircare market.

This research features 'L-Tetrahydropalmatine (L-THP),' a phytochemical derived from the plant Corydalis ternata, which has long been recognized for its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Notably, this study confirms L-THP's beneficial effects on human dermal papilla cells and human outer root sheath cells, thereby promoting hair growth and inhibiting follicle regression, representing a significant advancement in addressing hair loss.

Aekyung's findings reveal that L-THP enhances the proliferation of essential hair growth factors such as Versican, Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP), and Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF). With substantial in vivo studies indicating its efficacy, Aekyung positions L-THP as a differentiated ingredient to target both domestic and international premium segments, highlighting its commercial viability.

The company has secured relevant patents and achieved listing in the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (ICID), solidifying L-THP’s status as a high-functionality ingredient. Currently, Aekyung is preparing to register L-THP as a functional ingredient with the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, highlighting its compliance with stringent regulatory standards.

Aekyung plans to integrate L-THP into various premium haircare products, such as shampoos and tonics, to meet the rising consumer interest in effective ingredients amidst the emerging trend of 'skinification' in haircare. This strategic move reflects the brand’s commitment to innovation while responding to evolving consumer preferences for performance-driven formulations.

The research team leader, Lim Seung-eun, articulated the significance of these findings, noting that scientifically substantiating L-THP's efficacy as a natural-derived ingredient for hair loss relief enhances the company’s competitive edge in the global market. Aekyung's ongoing focus on differentiated ingredient research will further position it as a leader in functional haircare technologies.
