Strengthening Member Rights and Building Future Growth Foundations

The Korea Beauty Association (Chairperson Lee Sun-sim) held its 70th General Assembly on June 16 at the Grand Hall of L Tower in Seocho-gu, Seoul. With 426 out of 640 total delegates present, the assembly facilitated discussions among regional delegates regarding salient issues and the developmental direction of the association.

In her opening remarks, Chairperson Lee reflected on the significance of the association’s 70-year history, expressing gratitude towards previous advisors for their dedication. She reiterated the commitment to protecting member rights and ensuring the sustainable development of the association, highlighting that the organization’s history is predicated on the contributions of its predecessors. This focus on legacy positions the association to empower future generations in maintaining its relevance.

Addressing current economic conditions, Lee stated, “The aftermath of conflicts around the world continues to affect us, along with rising oil prices and pressures from exchange rates and inflation.” She noted the challenges faced by beauty salons, where increased service fees have continued amidst declining profitability and rising closures. This underscores a critical need for the Korea Beauty Association to act as a trusted focal point for its members during these turbulent times.

Concerns regarding deteriorating financial conditions were also voiced. Lee mentioned a decline in membership fees alongside increasing operating costs, which has led to challenging fiscal situations for regional branches. To counter this, she highlighted the initiative to actively advance the association’s brand business, 'Cobalmary.' This strategic shift aims to establish a new revenue base to support ongoing operations, indicating a proactive approach to member economic welfare.

During the assembly, Lee urged delegates to unite in trust towards the association, pledging responsible leadership focused on member priorities. The commitment to fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted by the members is not only vital for governance but also crucial for retaining member engagement and loyalty.

In a speech during the assembly, Member of the National Assembly Oh Se-hee emphasized that the growth of the K-Beauty sector reflects the efforts and skills of professionals in the field. She remarked, “The beauty technology that enhances human beauty and satisfaction is an indispensable professional field, deserving full recognition and applause.” Additionally, she identified the current labor shortages in the beauty industry and the pressing need for focused educational initiatives to strengthen job competencies.

Significantly, the assembly also reviewed financial reports, including assets and liabilities from April 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026. Reports summarized that all operations and accountings had been executed appropriately following the approved budgets and board resolutions, underpinning accountability and transparency within the association.

The plans for 2026 include vital initiatives such as legislative proposals for beauty industry promotion, hosting the OMC Hair World and OMC Asia Cup, and the development of quality beauty products and services. The inclusion of hygiene education for beauty professionals, combining traditional and cyber sessions, highlights a commitment to upskilling, indicating a strategic response to market demands. The successful passage of the budget for 2026 reinforces the association’s operational readiness.
