Jeollanam-do announced on the 10th that it has secured export business agreements (MOU) totaling $454,000 during its participation in the K-Expo Spain 2026 held in Madrid. This effort establishes a foundation for entering the European market and signals the region's commitment to expanding its footprint beyond Asia.

The event featured eight notable small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from the region, including Marine Techno, Innoflux, Natural Dye Sum, Seogwang Foods, Damwoo, Food Papa, Bada So Pung, and JS Korea. They engaged in tailored one-on-one export consultations with local buyers, effectively communicating the superior qualities of Jeollanam-do products to European consumers.

This participation reflects not only a growth strategy but also harnesses the increasing consumer interest in K-Food and K-Beauty, as products like traditional Korean costumes gained attention. The regional offerings, particularly food and cosmetics, underscore the global competitiveness of Jeollanam-do brands in a crowded international landscape.

In the food sector, local specialties such as Yuja tea and mixed vegetable bibimbap garnered significant interest from local buyers. Additionally, discussions surrounding tteokbokki and abalone products indicated active purchasing consultations, suggesting a robust future for market expansion based on sustained demand for K-Food.

Meanwhile, in cosmetics, functional beauty products received positive evaluations due to their differentiated ingredients and quality. Attendees showed proactive interest by inquiring about product efficacy and formulation specifics—a strong indicator of potential repeat purchase behavior and longer-term customer engagement.

In the traditional attire sector, hanbok utilizing natural dye techniques caught the eye of attendees, showcasing the cultural heritage and eco-friendly values of Korea. This interest signifies not only potential sales but also growth opportunities as K-Culture-related products gain traction in foreign markets.

Shin Hyun-gon, Jeollanam-do's International Cooperation Officer, stated, “This achievement demonstrates that Jeollanam-do’s superior products possess ample competitiveness even in the highly challenging European market. We will strive to enhance post-agreement follow-up and support overseas marketing efforts to ensure these agreements convert into actual exports and robust local distribution networks.”
