Olive Young Dominates Korean Beauty E-commerce Landscape
Sensor Tower released its "2026 Global E-commerce Status" report on the 10th, revealing that Olive Young has achieved the top position in both mobile app and website categories within Korea's beauty e-commerce sector. The report shows that global e-commerce websites reach peak traffic in the fourth quarter, influenced by key shopping events such as Black Friday and Christmas. Compared to the previous year, website visits surged by 9% in Q4 2025, while unique visitors increased by 21%, marking unprecedented levels.
In the mobile market, despite notable peaks in 2024 and 2025, user volume and engagement remain stable. Notably, Africa recorded the highest growth in e-commerce app downloads, rising by 26% year-over-year. Meanwhile, India generated approximately 58 billion visits to e-commerce websites in the past year, showcasing a 28% increase and leading global traffic growth in this category. This data underlines the growing importance of the online channel as central to consumer purchasing behavior.
Furthermore, the total global e-commerce app downloads comprised 41% of overall downloads as of Q1 2026, maintaining its critical market position. Fashion and consumer goods followed, with shares of 15% and 11%, respectively. Beauty e-commerce now represents 3.4%, emphasizing its potential for growth in the broader e-commerce ecosystem.
The rise in traffic for both fashion and beauty e-commerce is particularly notable, with fashion witnessing a 54% growth in website visits from 59.9 billion in Q1 2025 to 92.1 billion in Q1 2026. Beauty e-commerce websites saw an impressive growth of 60% in visit numbers and 74% in unique visitors compared to the previous year, indicating a robust market expansion driven by consumer demand for online product exploration and comparison.
Despite a slight increase in beauty app downloads, the average usage time dropped by about 9%, signaling a critical need for brands to streamline online experiences and enhance SEO and social media outreach. To capitalize on these trends, stakeholders must leverage digital channels to optimize customer engagement and improve acquisition strategies.
Among the major platforms, Temu ranked second globally in user volumes across both mobile app and website categories with a 24% increase in monthly active users year-over-year. Shein emerged as the fastest-growing platform in web traffic, with a 70% increase in unique visitors compared to the prior year. Such dynamics illustrate escalating competition in the beauty e-commerce space.
In terms of market leadership, Nykaa continued to dominate globally for both mobile app monthly active users and unique web visitors. In Korea, Olive Young maintained its stance, capturing 66% of mobile app downloads and 78% of website visits between May 2025 and April 2026, underscoring its substantial market influence. As of March 2026, the combined active user count exceeded 13 million, of which 58.6% were app-exclusive users, indicating a strong connection with the mobile channel.
Olive Young’s strategic approach includes regular seasonal promotions in March, June, September, and December, alongside increased digital advertising spending. Sensor Tower's insights show that from January to April 2026, Instagram and X were key advertising channels, with a marked increase in expenditure on X, reflecting efforts to diversify marketing strategies and engage new user segments.
