K-Beauty Strengthens Footprint in ASEAN via Thailand Hub
Cosmoprof CBE ASEAN Bangkok kicked off at the Queen Sirikit National Convention Center in Thailand from June 24 to 26, featuring over 20 countries and more than 800 companies, including an unprecedented 115 Korean firms. This year marks a pivotal evolution for the event, showcasing its growth as a B2B platform targeting the ASEAN beauty market.
The exhibition area was expanded significantly to encompass 30,000 square meters, reflecting a strategic shift towards integrating supply chain solutions such as the newly-established Cosmopack section. This change signals a market evolution, with ASEAN positioning itself as a significant manufacturing hub amidst global demand for diversified production sites.
Thailand's strategic geographic advantages and robust OEM/ODM capabilities have positioned it as a vital gateway into the ASEAN market. The exhibition has established itself as essential for global companies aiming to navigate and expand their business networks in Southeast Asia, particularly as local demand for high-functionality skincare and natural beauty products surges.
This year, 115 South Korean companies participated, a record high, signaling the growing recognition and influence of K-beauty in the ASEAN region. KOECO, the organizing body for the Korean Pavilion, observed heightened interest from Southeast Asian buyers, surpassing that seen in the Italian Pavilion, showcasing K-beauty's rising prestige.
In response to the increasing market dynamics, Korean companies are enhancing their export strategies, focusing on local production and co-development rather than simply exporting brands. This shift addresses specific needs in the ASEAN market, which is vital for fostering deeper client relationships and mitigating trade barriers.
As a signal of growing industry collaboration, the Korea Cosmetics Association strengthened ties with the ASEAN Cosmetics Association during the event, emphasizing regulatory harmonization and sharing market insights. These cooperative efforts are crucial in a region characterized by rapid growth and evolving consumer preferences, particularly among younger demographics favoring the glass skin trend.
The newly introduced Cosmopack section, occupying 53% of the exhibition space, reinforces the shift in the ASEAN beauty industry from product-centric to production-focused dynamics. This change highlights the region's transition towards a manufacturing-centered marketplace, as global companies adjust their strategies to cater to shifting consumer interests.
Looking forward, industry leaders predict that the consolidation of these efforts will set a foundation for heightened collaboration, innovation, and strategic partnerships within ASEAN's evolving beauty market landscape, making it a critical point of focus for brand strategists and distributors alike.
