Amorepacific Achieves Global RE100 Certification: A Strategic Milestone

On the 10th, Amorepacific announced that it has received official verification from The Climate Group for its transition to renewable energy across all global operations. This achievement establishes Amorepacific as the first private beauty company in South Korea to not only join the RE100 initiative in 2021 but also to meet its goal for 2025 ahead of schedule.

Since 2020, Amorepacific has incrementally increased its renewable energy usage from approximately 5% to 100%, showcasing a disciplined approach to sustainability that aligns with both corporate growth strategies and environmental stewardship. This shift is particularly significant considering the initial challenges in securing renewable energy procurement agreements, which led Amorepacific to become a market leader in executing Direct Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and Virtual Power Purchase Agreements (VPPAs).

The company's extensive investment in solar infrastructure further supports its renewable energy ambitions. By utilizing surplus land at its facilities, Amorepacific expanded its solar capacity from 196 kW in 2011 to around 7,145 kW today, highlighting a robust business model that leverages asset efficiency for sustainable returns.

Furthermore, Amorepacific's climate management gains are influencing its entire supply chain. The company recently earned a top rating (A) from the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) in climate change response and water management, as well as in the Supplier Engagement Assessment (SEA). This recognition emphasizes Amorepacific's commitment to building a foundation for greenhouse gas reductions in collaboration with key partners.

Oliver Wilson, Head of RE100 at The Climate Group, highlighted that Amorepacific has made significant strides towards achieving 100% renewable energy procurement since joining the initiative. He indicated that their success serves as a model for the pivotal role renewable energy will play in future energy systems, promising continued collaboration aimed at expanding South Korea's renewable energy landscape.

Gwon Soon-cheol, Head of the Safety and Environment Division at Amorepacific, remarked that achieving RE100 is not an endpoint but a new starting point. He emphasized a commitment to enhancing renewable energy procurement avenues and spearheading carbon emissions reductions across the supply chain, further solidifying the company’s leadership in sustainable management.
