BASF Begins Supplying Tinosorb S to U.S. Market
Global chemical company BASF has announced its ability to supply Tinosorb S, its trademarked product containing Bemotrizinol, to the U.S. market, following its recent approval as a UV filtering active ingredient by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Under a Supplemental License Agreement with DSM Nutritional Products LLC, BASF has obtained the rights to sell and market Bemotrizinol (Tinosorb S) within the United States. The company holds co-exclusive rights for the sales and marketing of this product during an 18-month exclusivity period granted by the FDA, applicable to sunscreen products manufactured in or imported into the U.S.
Tinosorb S (Bemotrizinol) is recognized as a highly effective broad-spectrum sunscreen that provides UV protection across both UVA and UVB ranges. Its exceptional photostability has gained global acknowledgment, and it is also known to enhance the photostability of other UV filters. This quality allows sunscreen manufacturers to create advanced formulations that offer effective and long-lasting UV protection.
BASF offers a comprehensive portfolio and expertise within the sunscreen sector, including a variety of UV filters such as Tinosorb, Uvinul, and Z-COTE, along with emollients, emulsifiers, thickening agents, film formers, and active ingredients to support the entire product development process for sunscreen manufacturers. This integrated approach aids clients in developing next-generation sunscreen products that combine high-performance UV protection with superior feel and long-lasting effects.
With the FDA approval of Tinosorb S, BASF is expected to collaborate closely with sunscreen manufacturers, brands, and formulation developers across the United States to introduce innovative UV protection solutions to the market. This initiative aims to meet consumer expectations for more effective, reliable, and high-performance sunscreens.
