P&K Skin Clinical Research Center Co., Ltd. (347740), a leading specialist in human application testing for cosmetics in South Korea, reported consolidated revenue of 12.8 billion KRW for the first half of the year. This marks a 7.4% increase compared to the same period last year, achieving the highest half-year revenue for two consecutive years. The company's operating profit reached 2.5 billion KRW, while net profit was recorded at 3 billion KRW.

The increase in revenue is attributed to rising demand for testing services and a larger volume of orders. However, operating profit saw a decline of approximately 300 million KRW from the previous year, impacted by increasing labor costs due to the expansion of research personnel to meet growing testing demand, as well as depreciation costs from investment in testing equipment and expenses related to subsidiary business expansion.

As of the end of the first half, the company’s order backlog increased to 8 billion KRW, showing a substantial 33% rise from 6 billion KRW in the previous quarter. As the K-beauty indie brands expand globally and shorten product launch cycles, the demand for efficacy verification and advertising proof has increased, leading to an expansion of P&K's new clients and orders. The company views this growth in orders as a key leading indicator of future revenue growth.

P&K is also expanding beyond cosmetics into the inner beauty and beauty device sectors. The business of the P&K Functional Food Research Center, which has been strategically developed since 2021, has begun in earnest and reported a revenue increase of approximately 15% compared to the previous year.

The company’s distinct competitive advantage lies in its extensive library of over 400 testing protocols and approximately 9.5 million skin clinical data points. Customized testing is designed considering product characteristics, target efficacy, advertising expressions, and regulatory environments by country, providing clients with not just test results but also efficacy data and proof that can be directly used in product development and marketing.

P&K plans to enhance its data-driven testing and analysis services utilizing its accumulated data assets and testing design capabilities while gradually expanding its service areas into the beauty tech sector incorporating AI technology. The company is also exploring external growth strategies such as strategic partnerships and M&As to secure new growth drivers beyond its existing human application testing business.

A representative from P&K stated, “The 33% increase in order backlog from the previous quarter shows the strategic value and market demand for our clinical data assets and testing design capabilities. We aim to swiftly translate our increased orders into second-half revenue by leveraging the proactively expanded research infrastructure, and to broaden our business areas into data-driven AI beauty tech to sustain our unique growth trajectory.”
