LG Household & Health Care Publishes Groundbreaking Study on Anti-Aging Ingredient NAD+

LG Household & Health Care has published a significant study in the prestigious biotechnology journal, Materials Today Bio, validating the efficacy of its proprietary technology, NAD Power24™. This research highlights the improvements in skin aging indicators, restoring them to levels typical of individuals in their 30s during trials conducted with skin samples from individuals in their 60s.

The collaboration with Professor Ryoo Dong-ryeol's team at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology has led to the development of NAD Power24™, which achieves a remarkable enhancement in the skin absorption and delivery of NAD+, a key factor in regulating cellular aging.

NAD+, recognized as a next-generation anti-aging ingredient, faces challenges in absorption and stability due to its molecular structure, limiting its use in cosmetic formulations. This research team addressed these challenges by applying Ion-Coupled Transfersome technology. This innovative approach modifies how NAD+ is incorporated into the delivery system, ensuring it can effectively penetrate the skin barrier and significantly improve its absorption.

As a result, NAD Power24™ effectively increases NAD+ levels within the skin, stabilizing its delivery to restore mitochondrial function. Mitochondria play a crucial role in cell energy production, and their impairment can accelerate skin aging. By activating mitochondria with NAD+ delivered deeply into the skin, the new technology addresses the fundamental causes of skin aging.

Clinical findings indicate improvements in factors that contribute to skin aging. DNA damage from ultraviolet (UV) exposure was repaired, and the number of senescent cells resulting from oxidative stress significantly decreased. Additionally, the lifespan of skin cells extended from 30 days to 55 days.

Further examination of skin tissue revealed tangible changes; the application of NAD Power24™ restored aging indicators in skin samples from 60-year-olds to levels typical of those in their 30s.

The research resulted in securing core patents related to NAD Power24™. Chief Technology Officer Kang Nae-kyu stated that this study represents a meaningful advancement in directly delivering NAD+ to improve skin energy and recovery, proposing a new approach to skin longevity technology. The application of NAD+ is currently being explored in the development of raw materials, particularly in the luxury brand The History of Whoo’s 'Bichup' line.
