Amorepacific Validates Effects of Micro-LED Mask Combined with Skin Injection Treatments

Amorepacific, in collaboration with KAIST, has verified that using a Micro-LED mask in conjunction with skin injection treatments can enhance skin improvement effects. The results of this study were published online in the international journal Nano Energy in August.

The research focused on the recovery process and skin improvement effects following injection treatments, particularly with Polynucleotide (PN) injections which deliver active ingredients directly to the dermis. Despite their benefits, these treatments can lead to temporary redness and skin barrier damage, as well as limitations in skin brightening effects.

This study investigated the combination of the Micro-LED mask and PN injections to analyze potential synergies between in-clinic procedures and home care. The mask is designed to conform closely to facial contours, optimizing light energy delivery by minimizing the distance between the light source and the skin. Contact area with the skin increased from 46.9% to 78.1%, and the distance between the light source and skin was reduced from 4.1mm to 1.8mm, achieving a light uniformity of 93.8% across eight facial regions.

Utilizing ex vivo trials on human skin tissue, researchers compared the effects of PN injections, the Micro-LED mask alone, and the combination of both. Results indicated that the combination group demonstrated a significant reduction in melanin production factors compared to the PN injection group, with collagen production increasing by approximately 15%. Additionally, inflammatory and collagen degradation factors significantly decreased, illustrating positive results in terms of skin regeneration and brightening.

A clinical trial involving 33 participants over eight weeks found substantial skin improvement in areas treated with the Micro-LED mask. Key brightening indicators, including the number and size of dark spots, skin tone, and tone uniformity, showed significant improvements. After eight weeks, deep skin elasticity improved by 12.8%, over four times more than the 3.1% increase seen in the PN injection group, indicating significant enhancement in skin density.

The combination approach also facilitated faster recovery for skin rendered sensitive post-treatment. The Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL) indicator improved by 20.8% three days post-treatment, outperforming the 12.4% improvement in the PN injection group, along with reduced redness. Researchers concluded that the Micro-LED mask could support recovery following skin booster treatments and may be utilized for managing downtime effectively.

Seobyeong-hwi, CTO of Amorepacific's R&I Center, remarked that this study exemplifies the potential of hybrid research combining the strengths of dermatological procedures and home care technologies.
