Jeong-Yoon Won, the representative of the branding and packaging design studio ORDINAL, has announced the studio's win of the Silver award in the Body Care category at the Pentawards 2026. The award ceremony took place on the 16th at Magazine London in the UK, where Jeong-Yoon Won was present to receive the trophy on stage.

The Pentawards, established in 2007, celebrates its 20th edition this year as an international award focused on packaging design. In the domestic beauty sector, large companies such as LG Household & Health Care (2024) and Aekyung Industrial (2023) have previously received awards in the same category.

This year, over 2,000 entries from 66 countries were submitted, with around 700 pieces making it to the shortlist. According to the organizers, less than 20% of all entries receive the main awards (Bronze or higher).

The judging process is conducted blindly, allowing independent studios and large agencies to be evaluated on the same terms.

Jeong-Yoon Won holds a degree in Western painting and has eight years of experience in the domestic cosmetics industry. Previously, he worked in the product planning team at Colmar Holdings within the OBM group and served as the head of the packaging department for the color cosmetics brand rom&nd.

Having navigated roles in manufacturing, branding, and design studios, Jeong-Yoon's experience spans all three segments of the beauty industry. In June of this year, he established ORDINAL as a full-fledged studio, marking this award as the first international recognition in its inaugural year.

He stated, "In manufacturing, I learned about the forms that can be produced, while in branding, I understood the reasons behind sales." ORDINAL's approach is grounded in the principle of translating heritage into contemporary language. They identify existing elements of a brand, whether the history of materials or the essence of products, and build upon that foundation with new ideas that have yet to be conceived by the brand, creating their current form.

Jeong-Yoon emphasized, "Trends shorten the lifespan of brands. Timeless elements should have valid reasons for their form, and ORDINAL seeks to find those reasons first." The winning packaging for the tanning brand X PERCENT exemplifies this method. ORDINAL was responsible for the logo, container mold, packaging system, and visual direction.

Traditionally, tanning products categorize shades as Light, Medium, and Dark. ORDINAL translated this division into the time of day, proposing three lines: DAYBREAK, HIGH NOON, and MIDNIGHT, allowing users to choose a time period rather than a shade. The graphics incorporate etched illustrations from old pharmacopoeia labels, merging the traditional grammar of a pharmacy with modern tanning categories.

ORDINAL is a studio that comprehensively understands the entire process of launching beauty brands, from planning and design to sourcing materials and coordinating manufacturing. As an independent studio led directly by Jeong-Yoon on all projects, it currently works on initiatives for both domestic and global brands.
