Challengers' Campaigns Highlight Importance of Sustained Ranking in E-commerce
Whitecube, operated by CEO Choi Hyuk-jun, disclosed on the 10th the results of a study analyzing the impact of top-ranking exposure strategies based on commerce campaign operational data. With the domestic digital advertising market projected to expand from approximately $5.9 billion in 2024 to $38 billion by 2035, it has become crucial for brands to focus on not just visibility but on capturing actual sales through strategic placements.
The average advertising conversion rate across e-commerce platforms currently hovers between 1.6% and 2.1%. As advertising expenditures rise, conversion to actual purchases has remained stagnantly low, shifting the industry’s focus from mere impressions to tangible transactions. This has led to a growing interest in designing stable exposure frameworks that maintain ranking in high-accountability segments, as brands seek to establish sustainable pathways to organic revenue growth.
Challengers leverages actual consumer purchasing and engagement data to tailor conversion solutions specific to each brand. By utilizing a pool of 2 million customers, they can amplify purchase signals at critical moments, leading the platform to classify products as 'best-sellers,' thereby supporting the maintenance of top-ranking placements. This structure facilitates brand growth, transitioning from initial sales to sustained visibility and further expanding organic sales potential.
A case study from Food Brand A illustrates the direct impact of the Challengers campaign on maintaining top rankings. Under identical promotional conditions, employing Challengers resulted in achieving a peak rank of 12 over the course of three days, effectively retaining visibility within the TOP30 for up to 31 hours. In contrast, without this strategy, there were rapid declines in ranking, underscoring the importance of continuous maintenance rather than one-time placements.
Brand B in the beauty category demonstrated impressive short-term efficiency, achieving a Return on Advertising Spend (ROAS) of 830% through a Challengers campaign, showcasing a direct correlation between campaign traffic and actual sales. Moreover, Brand C, engaging in long-term campaigns over eight months, recorded monthly sales growth that expanded approximately 50-fold compared to initial figures, illustrating that the design of exposure structures plays a critical role in fostering sustainable revenue growth beyond short-term outcomes.
The results have led to repeated adoptions by actual brands, with 58.6% of the 538 brands that initiated their first Challengers campaign between March 2025 and February 2026 opting for additional engagements within that same year. This reflects a trend where brands experiencing initial revenue effects choose to reinvest, highlighting the model's position as a platform for long-term sustainable growth rather than one-off campaigns.
Choi Hyuk-jun emphasized the necessity of transitioning from merely increasing exposure to implementing strategies that stabilize and expand results into measurable sales. He stated, "Systematic management of exposure structures is emerging as a critical factor affecting campaign outcomes." Looking ahead, he affirmed a commitment to refining data-driven solutions, positioning Whitecube as a partner in continuous brand growth.
