The recent K-Beauty Global Market Leading Strategy Seminar, held by Jangup News, showcased practical strategies for enhancing the competitive strength of South Korea's cosmetics industry. This event took place from May 27 to 29 at the COEX during the 2026 Cosmo Beauty Seoul, specifically in Conference Room 318, attracting stakeholders from the industry, brands, manufacturers, and packaging and raw material enterprises focused on the latest trends and strategies for entering global markets.

Jangup News’s CEO, Kim Jung-kyu, stated on the 27th that as K-Beauty continues to elevate its standing in global markets beyond the $10 billion export threshold, the organization is committed to offering tangible support for enhancing the international competitiveness of domestic cosmetics. Celebrating its 32nd anniversary this year, Jangup has consistently engaged in initiatives to foster the growth of the local cosmetics industry and facilitate access to the global market. This seminar, its 13th iteration, follows earlier efforts that introduced platforms like Alibaba to aid the industry’s entry into international markets.

Focal points of this year's seminar included AI-based global marketing strategies and addressing non-tariff barriers for the European market. As AI techniques permeate the industry, domestic cosmetic companies are set to benefit from shared insights on practical applications of these marketing strategies to enhance their global competitive edge.

Presentations covered core topics, including AI strategies for strengthening K-Beauty's global market penetration by Lee Kwang-il from Inti-BI Item, material utilization methods for global market entry by Ko Yong of SK Chemical, responses to European packaging regulations (PPWR) by Heo Byung-tae from Semyeong E&C, and the export strategies for K-Beauty, emphasizing data-driven persuasion by Baek Sang-yeol from Amity. The focus remained on actionable strategies that are relevant in real-world export contexts, garnering significant interest from attendees.

Heo Byung-tae elaborated on the European Union’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), set to take effect in 2026, asserting that product competitiveness will increasingly depend on the recyclability and sustainability of packaging materials. The regulation's three core threads—sustainability, labeling, and accountability—necessitate compliance with requirements that all packaging must be designed for recyclability, contain a threshold of recycled content, and incorporate digital labeling.

By 2030, only packaging that achieves recycling ratings of A to C will be permitted market entry, introducing stringent compliance requirements. Heo also indicated that from August 2026 onwards, all packaging must have a declaration of conformity and technical documentation. The lack of data may lead to customs clearance refusals, urging cosmetics companies to incorporate recyclability, minimal packaging, harmful substance management, and QR-based digital labeling from the product design phase.

The seminar further underscored the importance of Technical Documentation, which must encompass product identification data, packaging structure, bill of materials, recycling assessment reports, PCR certification, safety test results, and labeling samples. These documents must be maintained for at least 5 to 10 years, highlighting the rising need for substantial data supporting the feasibility of recycling processes.

Participants stressed the necessity of shifting from intuition-based strategies to data-driven approaches for sustainable growth in the global K-Beauty market. Baek Sang-yeol noted that while K-Beauty has established itself as a next-generation core industry in South Korea, traditional overseas entry methods still incur high marketing costs and inefficient structures. He advocated for an O2O platform strategy informed by global consumer reviews and skin data analysis, ensuring product validation through local consumer insights prior to B2B export.

Utilizing a global network of micro-influencers and skin-type-based data analysis allows for precise insights into regional and demographic consumer preferences. This strategy facilitates the creation of a platform ecosystem connecting brands with global distributors and buyers while minimizing inventory risk by linking only verified brands with B2B networks. Industry evaluations indicate that the seminar transcended mere market forecasting, delivering practical strategies essential for thriving in global markets.

As AI-driven data marketing and the emphasis on ESG and circular economy regulations intensify, the capabilities of K-Beauty companies to adapt are increasingly crucial. A representative from Jangup News remarked that the landscape of global markets is rapidly evolving, making data-centric export strategies and compliance with environmental regulations indispensable.
