Challengers, operated by Whitecube under the leadership of CEO Choi Hyok-jun, has decisively validated the efficacy of its sales-based marketing model in Japan, particularly with its participation in Qoo10 Japan's 'Mega Sale'. Notably, the program recorded a remarkable renewal rate of 63.2% among participating brands, alongside a cumulative total of 196 collaborative brands and over 5.6 billion KRW in sales, positioning itself as a crucial partner for K-beauty brands aiming for global expansion.

The Mega Sale, conducted four times a year, serves as a pivotal sales season for K-beauty brands to connect with Japanese consumers. However, with an escalating number of participants, the competitive landscape illustrates that mere discounts and advertising exposure are insufficient. Instead, the ability to intricately design consumer purchasing processes has become a fundamental differentiator for success in this market.

Challengers focuses on nurturing a genuine sales infrastructure where consumers purchase products with their own funds, validating their experiences afterward. This approach not only amplifies actual sales but effectively ensures that advertising translates into tangible purchasing behaviors. In the second quarter, the sales attributed to Challengers Japan increased 2.2 times compared to the previous quarter, with the number of purchases also rising by 2.1 times. The data indicates that 63.2% of brands that participated in the first quarter Mega Sale opted for immediate re-execution, demonstrating confirmed marketing effectiveness.

Leveraging its proprietary verification technology and automated operational system, Challengers is structured to reliably manage multiple brand campaigns at major events like the Mega Sale. In fact, in the second quarter, 40 brands simultaneously conducted 41,866 purchases through Challengers, significantly enhancing visibility; for instance, Beauty Brand M experienced a 20-fold increase in page visits during this period, which corresponded with a boost in sales performance.

As of June 2026, Challengers Japan has conducted a cumulative total of 1,649 campaigns—an increase of 6.6 times year-on-year—boasting 78,230 registered Japanese users (5.2 times increase) and 184,245 cumulative purchases (8.2 times increase). Currently, operations are centered around Qoo10, with plans for expansion into major platforms such as Rakuten and Amazon Japan, alongside offline channels.

CEO Choi emphasized that as more K-beauty brands enter the Japanese market, merely participating in events like the Mega Sale is no longer sufficient for achieving results. He stated, 'What Challengers designs is not just advertising exposure, but rather a structure that fosters actual purchases. The 63.2% renewal rate is a clear confirmation that this structure is operationally effective.' Looking ahead, Choi reaffirmed commitment to support K-beauty brands in establishing sustainable growth in the Japanese market.
